GM Van Seat Swap Compatibility
The seat mounting bolt pattern has remained the same since 1997. This means that all Express, Savana, and G-Series Series Seats are backwards-compatible.
You can install newer seats in your older van with no problems, but use extreme caution installing older seats into newer vans!
Seat Swap Safety
The GM Van was available in three major iterations. '96-'02 had seats without any electrical safety features or sensors. From '03-'14 the seats included a seatbelt pretensioner, which is a device that tightens the seatbelt more during an accident.
Seat-mounted airbags were introduced on 1500 models for the 2014 model year, and then on the heavy duty models for the 2016 model year. They were not made standard until 2018.
