4th Gen SN95 Mustang OEM Interior Options

1994-1998 Models (Pre-Refresh)

Trim Levels

Base Trim
Standard cloth bucket seats. These seats generally feature a flatter bottom cushion and backrest with minimal bolstering. The seat belt buckles in these models are mounted to the floor tunnel, not the seat track itself.

GT Trim
Standard "Sport" bucket seats available in cloth or leather. These seats feature significantly more aggressive side bolstering than the Base models.

  • 1994-1996: Featured a unique, larger rounded headrest design reminiscent of the late Fox Body era.
  • 1997-1998: The headrest design was updated to a smaller, non-tilting square shape.

Cobra Trim
Standard leather "Sport" seats. These shared the same aggressive foam bolstering as the GT models but were dressed in premium leather. Like the GT, the headrest style shifted from the larger rounded style (94-95) to the smaller square style (96-98).

Interior Colors

Opal Gray (1994-1995): A light, airy gray used in the early years. It is significantly lighter than the later graphite shades.

Medium Graphite (1996-1998): Replaced Opal Gray. This is a darker, more modern gray that became the standard for the rest of the pre-refresh era.

Saddle (Tan): Available for the entire run. This is a warm, peanut-butter style tan often paired with black or tan dashboards.

Black: Available for the entire run.

Bright Red (1994-1995 Only): This rare interior featured vibrant red seats, carpet, and door panels. It was discontinued after 1995.

Bright Blue (1994-1995 Only): Similar to the red option, this was a vibrant all-blue interior available only in the first two years of the new body style.

White Leather: Available primarily on Convertibles and some Coupes (often Triple White feature cars). These seats featured white leather upholstery usually paired with a contrasting black or red dashboard and carpet.

1999-2004 Models (New-Edge)

Trim Levels

Base Trim
Standard cloth bucket seats. Similar to the previous generation, these offer a comfortable but flatter profile with less aggressive bolstering. A key difference for this generation is that the seat belt buckle travels with the seat (mounted to the frame) rather than bolting to the floor.

GT Trim
Updated "New Edge" Sport bucket seats. These feature revised foam that is slightly firmer than the SN95 generation. Leather models typically feature an embroidered "Running Pony" logo on the upper seatback.

Bullitt Trim (2001)
Unique "Retro" styled leather seats. These feature a distinct horizontal pleated pattern (referencing the 1968 Fastback) and arguably the best comfort in the lineup. They are easily identified by their large, 4-way adjustable headrests that tilt—a feature not found on standard GTs.

Mach 1 Trim (2003-2004)
Unique "Comfort Weave" upholstery. These seats mimic the classic 1970s interior styling with a textured, breathable fabric center section and leather bolsters. They utilize the same supportive foam structure as the Bullitt/Cobra seats.

Cobra Trim

  • 1999-2001: Leather sport seats similar in shape to the GT, but often featuring suede inserts (Alcantara) and specific stitching.
  • 2003-2004 (Terminator): Widely considered the best factory seat for this chassis. These feature deep, race-inspired bolstering, suede inserts (Nudo/Preferred Suede), and the Cobra emblem embroidered into the seatback.

Interior Colors

  • Dark Charcoal (Midnight Black): The standard "Black" for this generation. It is slightly off-black/dark grey compared to the jet black of earlier years, but functions as the primary dark interior option.
  • Medium Parchment (Tan): A lighter, creamier tan compared to the older "Saddle" color.
  • Medium Graphite (Gray): Carried over as the standard middle-gray option.

Pre-Refresh Vs New Edge Seats

The pre-refresh models and the New Edge models share the same bolt pattern, but the overall seat architecture did change. You can easily install the New Edge seats into the 1994-1998 models.

So long as you have the seats and the floor-side of the connector you everything you need to complete the install completely and correctly. If you are not pre-wired for power seats (most XL trucks are not) you will need to run both power and ground to underneath the seats.

Power Driver Seat Installation

If you're adding a power driver seat to a Mustang that didn't have one from factory, you should expect to do some light wiring work. A new power and ground wire will need to be run - thankfully the wiring on these seats is self explanatory. There are two thick wires for power and ground, and two thin wires for the seatbelt sensor.

Installing Newer Mustang Seats In a SN95

UThe floor pan of the SN95 Mustang is unfortunately not very flat, so fabricating seats in can get tricky. We recommend a professional fabrication shop handle the installation.

Swapping 2005-2009 style seats (S197) into the SN95 was a popular modification in the 2010s thanks to an installation kit by Adapter Designs, who have since gone out of business. To complete this job now, you'll need a professional fabricator.

If you're open to fabrication of seats, we would recommend considering the S550 or S650 Mustang Seats. They have a similar architecture to the S197 which makes fabrication fairly similar. They're also much easier to source in good condition.
