Power Seat Installation
You should expect a plug-and-play installation under most circumstances. If you have a W/T Trim or Fleet vehicle you may need to run an additional power and ground wire. The seat plugs are physically the same throughout the entire generation, though options do change wiring.
Replacing Factory Cooled GM Truck Seats
There were multiple versions of the cooling system available for these trucks. You can quickly identify compatible seats by checking out your map pocket. The earlier version had air vents built into the hard plastic seat back panel, above the map pocket to allow heat-exhaust to flow out from the climate-controlled seat system. The newer system has a all vinyl map pocket without vents.
'15-'20 GM SUV 9-Passenger Seat Conversions
Needing seating for three in the front row? This is a direct swap - all the holes are already drilled - the difficulty in this swap comes from the airbag system.
The Over-Console Airbag Problem
The 2015 GM SUV introduced a new safety feature - an airbag that deploys right over the center console. In practice, this prevents the driver and passenger from hitting heads during a side-impact collision.
These airbags become a major safety concern once you remove the center console and put a seat there. You now have your 9th passenger sitting in the direct path of an airbag! The easiest path here is to have your local body-shop delete the airbag and install a shunt.
Tahoe, Yukon, and Suburban: Second and Third Row Seat Swaps
Second Row Seat Swaps
The second row of the GMT900 is different between the short and long wheelbase versions. Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade use the shorter wheelbase. Suburban, Yukon XL, and Escalade ESV use the longer wheelbase. You can interchange bucket and bench seats, but only from the same wheelbase model.
The short wheelbase models have a step-up to the rear shelf area built into the seat mounting brackets. The long wheelbase models mount flat to the floor, without the step-up.
Third Row Seat Deletes (And Un-Deletes)
Third row seats were standard on most of the SUVs, however there were a few options for a factory third row delete. Factory third row deletes can be found in the 2018-2020 Tahoe Special Edition, as well as the SSV (Special Service Vehicle), PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle), and 1FL (Fleet) trim Chevy and GMC SUVs.
To un-delete your third row seat, you will also need the trunk board and three new seatbelts.
